Tennis
Tennis is a major part of life at St Edward’s during the Summer Term and is a core sport offered to girls across all year groups
Teams are fielded at all levels, with up to three teams of six in an age group. Sixth Form boys can choose tennis as their main sports option and take advantage of a full fixtures list and Lower School boys are able to enjoy tennis as either a second sport choice on in their free time.
Pupils are able to make use of six hard courts and 16 astroturf courts, allowing them to hone their skills on a variety of surfaces. Players also have access to the four indoor courts at the on-site Nuffield Health Fitness and Wellbeing Centre and their affiliated team of coaches, some of the best in the county. During the summer season we have a strong fixtures list, competing against some of the top schools in the county, we typically field seven boys’ teams and 12 girls’ teams.
New for 2025
As part of an enhanced offering to pupils we will be introducing padel tennis along and pickleball into the tennis programme in 2025. We have partnered up with a local venue to allow pupils to try padel tennis for the first time this summer. We are also exploring offering real tennis as part of our shell activity programme.
THE TENNIS PROGRAMME AT TEDDIES

- Teddies has close association with the Oxfordshire Racquet Academy and the best players (both boys and girls) are invited to join their programme and may play additional matches throughout the year

- Pupils have the option to sign up for one-to-one or group lessons in addition to the school coaching programme
- The School has an Athletic Development Centre, offering sessions with our specialist Strength & Conditioning Coach
- Each year we enter teams into the LTA Youth Schools National Championships
- We have also entered teams into the most prestigious event in the calendar, ISTA, which is held at Eton at the end of the Summer Term, and the LTA Girls’ National Schools
