Why work at St Edward’s?

This is an important moment in the School’s development. The recent opening of outstanding new academic facilities and a stunning performance space at the heart of the campus is accelerating the momentum evident over the last few years in all areas of school life – in academic results, in the development of the curriculum, in co-education, and in admissions.

For all it’s recent successes, however, the School maintains it’s reputation for happiness, friendliness and places a strong emphasis on pastoral care, something that benefits our staff as well as our pupils. Some 400 staff, including 100 teachers, work alongside roughly 700 pupils across our 100-acre campus in North Oxford. The pupil body is made up of roughly 40% girls to 60% boys and the significant majority of our pupils board in one of our 13 Houses. The introduction of co-educational boarding in the Sixth Form is the most recent of the many innovations in the last few years on the pastoral side of the School.

St Edward’s is forward looking and progressive. In the Sixth Form, pupils have the option of selecting either the A Level or the IB Diploma course, meaning teaching staff benefit from added variety as well as the nuances and merits of each programme. Our academic programme was further enhanced in 2020 with the launch of pioneering new courses for the middle school years, designed to more fully to develop pupils’ skills of research, collaboration and communication. Academic results at the School have been rising steadily, with over 80% of pupils going on to rigorous courses among the top universities in the UK and overseas. Alongside a rigorous academic programme, talented scholars, musicians, sportswomen and men, performers, dancers, humanitarians, adventurers, entrepreneurs, filmmakers and artists – among many others – live and work together, inspire each other, and become lifelong friends.

Living and working in the culturally sophisticated and academically stimulating city of Oxford brings as many rewards to our staff as it does to our pupils. To read more about the benefits of our location click here.
