Modern Foreign Languages Teacher Trainees

St Edward’s School invites strong Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) graduates to train as teachers as part of the National Modern Languages SCITT (School Centred Initial Teacher Training). SCITT is a government funded scheme which offers trainee teachers a unique experience consisting of a blend of academic training and school placements in both state and independent schools as a route to qualified teaching status (QTS) and a post graduate certificate in education (PGCE). It allows trainees to gain hands-on experience from the outset.

Note that the one-year course is coordinated via the National Modern Languages SCITT and the Sheffield Teaching School Alliance.

Applications are open to:
– Recent graduates with a good honours degree in MFL
– Graduates with a good honours degree in MFL looking for a career change
– Native speakers with a good degree

Subject to eligibility, successful applicants will receive a £25,000 bursary. Bursaries are also available from The British Council, and a student loan can be taken out to cover the £9,250 tuition fee. Knowledge enhancement courses may also be available.

The course start date is August 2024.

If you are a talented and passionate linguist, this could be the start of the path to a very rewarding career as a teacher.
