A Level Results 2023

Congratulations to the Teddies A Level Class of ’23 who received an outstanding set of results today. Just under half of all grades were A*/A and 82% were A*-B, the best A Level results (in normal times) in the School’s history, and an exceptional achievement by this set of pupils for whom A Levels were their first experience of public exams.

Against the national trend, these results hold their own when compared with the more generous teacher assessed grades of the pandemic years and represent a step change in academic achievement at the School. The five-year average in A*/A grades in the years to 2019, the last year of normal exams, was 43%. Over the same period, 74% of all grades were A*-B against this year’s 81%.

The Warden said, ‘I could not be happier with these results. This cohort of pupils suffered the disruption of the pandemic and faced the added challenge of the return to pre-pandemic grading. They have performed exceptionally well and I congratulate them all for their hard work and determination. They were inspired by their Teachers and HMs, and guided by the new academic team under the direction of the Sub-Warden Academic, David Flower. It is testament to the hard work of all involved that we are able to celebrate these remarkable results today’.

The Sub-Warden Academic said, ‘I am delighted with these results and everything that they represent, both for this cohort of pupils and the Teddies community more generally. The old adage that it takes a village to raise a child might be equally applied to a set of exam results and I know that the pupils themselves would want to thank their Teachers, Matrons and all of the wider support staff for the (often unsung) part they played in facilitating such a wonderful set of achievements. To do so brilliantly in the exam hall having never taken public exams before is testament to the diligence, tenacity and good humour of the class of 2023 – I offer them all my hearty congratulations’.

Such exceptional results mean that pupils have been able to confirm their places at top universities in the UK and overseas. Some 80% of pupils secured their first choice university and two thirds will go on to prestigious Russell Group universities. Two pupils will take up places at the University of Oxford to study PPE and Music. Elsewhere, popular destinations are Bristol, Manchester, Durham, Edinburgh, University College London and Exeter alongside more specialist institutions such as Glasgow School of Art, the Royal Agricultural University, Central St Martins and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Two pupils will take up places in the United States – at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana and at Olin College of Engineering in Massachusetts. As ever, Teddies pupils go on to an impressive range of courses representing the breadth of their experiences at School – from Law, Biochemistry, Astrophysics, Maths and Architecture to Music Production, Fine Art & Sculpture, Jewellery & Silversmithing and Design for Performance.

We congratulate all our A Level pupils and look forward to welcoming them back to Teddies as OSE!
