A Level Results 2022

Hard work and record breaking outcomes mean that some 80% of Sixth Formers at St Edward’s secured places at their first choice university following the release of A Level results this week and IB results in July.

Despite their status as ‘the most disrupted school leavers since the Second World War’ (The Times), A Level pupils at Teddies received an outstanding set of results yesterday (Thursday 18th July), defying predictions that results would fall significantly short of last year’s Teacher Assessed Grades.

82% of A Level pupils secured A*-B grades (83% in 2021 and 79% in 2019), a remarkable achievement. Looking at IB and A Level results combined, just under 90% of grades were 7-5 or A*-B and nearly 60% were at the highest level of A*/A or 7/6 – and this latter figure is the highest ever recorded at the School in normal circumstances. The clear and accelerating upward trend in academic results at St Edward’s continues.

Commenting on the results, the Warden said, ‘These results are outstanding on every measure, and testament to the hard work of our pupils, their teachers, and everyone involved in supporting them in their lives at Teddies. Despite the challenges of the pandemic and against the national trend, last year’s leavers have broken records for the School, gained places at a wide range of great universities, and opened up for themselves opportunities for their futures in work and in life. With these results, they have reaped the rewards of their hard work, delighted their teachers and inspired other pupils. I could not be more proud of them and their achievements.’

The Sub-Warden Academic, David Flower, said, ‘Sitting here on a sunny August morning, it might have been easy to forget that the Class of 2022 had seen their Sixth Form life altered beyond all previous recognition by lockdowns, isolation and bubbles – all terms that we hope to see consigned to the history books. Even without that context, these results are outstanding but with it, they are staggeringly good. As I look down the list of results, I feel even prouder. I think of the online concerts and competitions that this year group organised in lockdown and the performances of Sweeney Todd and sports matches that helped us all feel that the world was getting back to normal. Having given us all so much out of their store of talents, I am thrilled that both the A level and IB cohorts have been so aptly rewarded and quietly satisfied that the hard work of the teaching and House staff has been recognised in these record-breaking results.’
