IB Results 2022

Congratulations to the IB class of ’22 who this week received a very strong set of results. 94% of all Higher Level grades were at levels 7-5 and 59% were at levels 7/6. More than a quarter of the cohort scored at the highest level, achieving 38 points or more (the published threshold for Oxford) against the maximum of 45, and this figure is significantly more than in 2019, the most appropriate year against which to benchmark. These outcomes continue the clear upward trend in academic results at St Edward’s.

The Warden, Alastair Chirnside, said, ‘I am immensely proud of this group of pupils who faced so much disruption in the early part of their IB studies. They tackled all the challenges with maturity and perseverance, and have been rewarded with an impressive set of results. Beyond their results, it is astonishing to reflect on how much these talented young people achieved alongside their studies – in typical Teddies fashion, they worked hard inside and outside the classroom, taking major roles in drama, sport, dance, music, societies and in leadership positions, bringing so much talent, joy and inspiration to our community.’

The Deputy Head Academic, David Flower, said, ‘One of my favourite moments of the Summer Term was the sound of whooping echoing around the Quad as the IB cohort left their last Maths paper. In the midst of the pandemic, we could all have been forgiven for thinking that we might never have heard that sound again. It is gratifying to know that the joy the pupils felt then will have been rekindled as they opened their results earlier this week. This is a fantastic group of pupils and I feel very proud of them and of the teachers and house teams who supported them. In the most unsettling of times, they have performed remarkably well and we are delighted to share in their success.’

The Director of IB, Anna Fielding, said, ‘It’s always wonderful to see pupils receive results but behind the numbers and grades there is so much more to celebrate.  All the pupils have achieved at a very high level and have set themselves up with skills for life: from coursework deadlines to oral exams, from presentations to research projects.  The demands of juggling six subjects along with the Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay and Creativity, Activity, Service components of the IB have given them organisational and interpersonal abilities that will help them go far.  We do hope all the pupils keep in touch and let us know about all the exciting things they do in the future.’
