Gaudy Week 2022

St Edward’s enjoyed a spectacular Gaudy Week, showcasing the exceptional talent of our pupils and staff. With events taking place all over the School – from stunning showcases of music and dance in the Olivier Hall and theatre performances in The North Wall, to pockets of drama, presentations and exhibitions, culminating in the speeches and prize-giving of Gaudy itself on Saturday – it was a fitting end to the academic year.

Shell Promenade Performance, A.L.I.C.E.

We followed our Shells down a rabbit hole to another world during their Promenade Performance of A.L.I.C.E; were uplifted by our Upper Sixth leavers performing a recital in the Holywell Music Room in Oxford; we tapped along to jazz and pop favourites from our Choirs and House Bands; delved into the world of composition and music technologies with our Pathways pupil presentations; supported ABF The Soldiers’ Charity at a fantastic concert in which the St Edward’s School Concert Band and the British Army Band Sandhurst played together; we enjoyed a thought-provoking performance of Dennis Potter’s television play Blue Remembered Hills, and the language and subtext explored by our Theatre Society in their performances in The North Wall; we listened to the stunning combination of our Orchestra and Choirs in a jubilee-themed concert; and were dazzled by our 130 dancers in a ‘Diamonds and Gold’ end-of-year showcase.

As our Warden reflected:

‘Gaudy Week is all about celebration. We come together to mark the end of a hugely successful year in the life of the School and, most importantly, to celebrate pupil academic and co-curricular achievements. The inspectors were absolutely right when they judged them to be excellent. We are lucky here at Teddies to have pupils with an astonishing variety of talents but also with wholehearted commitment to making the most of them. It is that commitment in practice, in rehearsal and in performance that we should celebrate most of all.’
