Year 9 (13+) Entry
How to apply for entry in to Year 9 (13+) – the Shell year
Visit the School
We recommend the best time to visit is when your child is 8 or 9 years old (Year 4 or 5). There are a number of ways in which to do so:
- Smaller Open Mornings are held most Saturdays during term time
- Main Open Mornings are held annually in May
- An individual visit can also be arranged
Register
After your visit, if you think St Edward’s might be the right School for your child, we suggest you register. Pupils must be registered to sit the ISEB or St Edward’s own entry exams. Only registered pupils will be considered for a place.
Pupils applying from overseas whose first language is not English should submit a UKISET test before registration.
October or November of Year 6
Children intending to join St Edward’s are asked to sit the ISEB Pre-Test.
January or February of Year 6
Interview and activity day for those progressing to the second stage of the admissions process.
March of Year 6
Subject to the successful completion of the assessment process, unconditional places are offered in the first week of March and are secured by paying an acceptance fee and acceptance deposit. The acceptance deposit is refunded in the final account. It is also refunded if your child does not meet the required standard in the exams or is removed on medical grounds. An additional deposit is required where one or both parents are resident outside the United Kingdom.
November of Year 8
Children who have not taken the ISEB Common Pre-Test sit an online adaptive test and St Edward’s own entrance papers in English and Mathematics, after which those progressing to the second stage attend an interview. Places for pupils who take this route are offered in early December and are secured by paying a deposit.
The acceptance fee and acceptance deposit are payable to confirm a place; the acceptance deposit is refunded on final account. It is also refunded if your child does not meet the required standard in the exams or is removed on medical grounds. An additional deposit is required where one or both parents are resident outside the United Kingdom.
June of Year 8
Children from prep schools sit Common Entrance or complete the Prep School Baccalaureate
All places are confirmed and joining papers are distributed
