Music this Term
Look out for two major music events this term. The Orchestral Concert will take place on Sunday 31st January at 8.00pm in St Michael’s Church, Lonsdale Road, Summertown, featuring a formal programme of popular classical music performed by the Symphony Orchestra: Rossini’s Overture to The Barber of Seville, Haydn’s beautiful Trumpet Concerto (Tom Powell, trumpet soloist) and Schubert’s Symphony no 8 ‘Unfinished’. Entry is free and there are no tickets. On Sunday 13th March, the Chapel Choirs will perform with British jazz pianist Robert Mitchell and his quintet Panacea, and the Oxford Contemporary Music Orchestra, in the second ever performance of Robert Mitchell’s jazz work Invocation. This was premiered at the London Jazz Festival at the Royal Festival Hall in 2014 with Bournemouth Symphony Chorus, but it’s the Chapel Choirs’ turn to lead the singing and to bring the piece to an Oxford audience. The performance will take place at 8.00pm in St John the Evangelist, Iffley Road; booking is essential: tickets available here.
