Boarding House Non-Residential Matron
St Edward’s Oxford is looking for a caring and empathetic individual to play a key role in our boarding houses as a non-residential matron.
As a Matron, your main responsibility will be the pastoral care of the pupils. This includes the pupils’ mental, physical and emotional well-being, as well as their participation in school and house life.
A high level of skill and knowledge is required to assist in the management of child protection and safeguarding issues, in handling confidential personal and medical information, and in the managing of difficult situations.
Appropriate training is provided to ensure Matrons remain up to date with best practice and have opportunities for continued professional development.
Matrons are expected to be a visible presence who spend significant amounts of time around the boarding house, working with pupils and the boarding house team to ensure high standards are achieved and maintained. In addition to this, Matrons have a significant housekeeping and administrative role, ensuring the house runs smoothly and is well presented.
Previous experience is not essential. However, you will need the ability to offer a high level of pastoral care and empathy for, and an understanding of, young people.
Strong listening skills, the ability to work as part of a team, and a commitment to safeguarding children and young people are equally important.
