School Charities

St Edward’s now chooses two School Charities annually and these are supported by pupils and staff with a variety of fundraising events throughout the year. The School Charities are chosen by pupils, parents and staff via anonymous vote. Each House delivers one major fundraising event in support of the School Charities each year, though they also support other charities throughout the year with ‘one-off’ appeals. In addition to House fundraising events, the School runs several larger appeals throughout the year such as the Steeplechase fundraiser and collections after concerts and performances. Pupils are involved through every stage of the School’s fundraising events and appeals.

The School Charities for 2025 are Thames Valley Air Ambulance and Mary’s Meals.

The Thames Valley Air Ambulance covers Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire, bringing hospital-level care to patients by land and air to give them the best chance of surviving and recovering from an emergency. Their highly-trained team of paramedics and doctors are ready for any eventuality, working at the forefront of pre-hospital emergency medicine with a clinical governance framework, research and innovation in technology and clinical practices.

Since 1999 the Thames Valley Air Ambulance has delivered advanced car to over 35,000 patients – they are not government funded and rely solely on public donations. The operation of their iconic red helicopter and five critical car response vehicles can only happen with the support of the communities they serve.

Mary’s Meals provides nutritious school meals to children in the world’s poorest communities in Africa as well as Lebanon, Haiti and Yemen. The promise of a good meal brings hungry children into the classroom, where they get an education and with that, better opportunities for their future. Their meals make it possible for hungry children to attend school and give them the energy they need to concentrate. They currently feed 2.5 million children worldwide.

It costs just £19.15 to feed a hungry child with Mary’s Meals every day for a school year.
