Scholarships, Awards and Financial Support
St Edward’s School offers both fee remission and financial support through admissions processes which are designed to further the School’s ambition to achieve and maintain excellence in all areas of school life and to ensure that as many young people as possible are able to benefit from a St Edward’s education.
Fee Remission
Fee Remission is a reduction in the fee, which is not usually means-tested, in recognition of a young person’s talent in a particular area of school life. Fee remission is allocated through the School’s Scholarships and Awards programme.
At Shell (Year 9) and Fourth Form (Year 10) entry, the following Scholarships and Awards are available:
- Academic Scholarships and Exhibitions
- Music Scholarships and Exhibitions
- Sports Awards
- Arts Awards (covering Dance, Drama, Art and Design & Technology)
At Sixth Form (Year 12) entry, the following Scholarships and Awards are available:
- Academic Scholarships and Exhibitions
- Music Scholarships and Exhibitions
- Sports Awards
- Arts Awards (covering Dance, Drama and Art)
Scholarships and Awards automatically attract standard fee remission at 5% per annum for Scholarships and 2.5% per annum for Exhibitions and Awards. Subject to the level of talent and experience which a candidate might bring to the School, further fee remission may be possible at the discretion of the School’s Admissions Committee. Beyond this, if further financial support is required for a child to take up the offered place at St Edward’s, it is possible for parents to apply for means-tested financial support.

Financial Support for Military Families
St Edward’s School has a long-standing historic connection with HM Armed Forces and the School supports the Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA) from the Ministry of Defence. Military families who are eligible for CEA receive 25% fee remission on our fees (before any CEA contribution). The School is able to provide this level of financial support for military families due to a very generous legacy donation by a former pupil of the School, who had a distinguished military career. Military fee remission can be combined with an application for means-tested financial support.
Other financial support outside the Scholarships and Awards process
Young people who are not applying through the Scholarships and Awards process but who would require financial assistance to take up a place at the School if they were successful in their application should apply for means-tested financial support.
St Edward’s is committed to ensuring that as many young people as possible from a wide range of backgrounds are able to benefit from a St Edward’s education. There are currently around 80 pupils at the School in receipt of varying levels of financial support and it is our ambition to increase this number to 160 in the coming years, a pledge made in our 160th anniversary year. Financial support can be provided for up to 100% of the fee (i.e. a free place) depending on a family’s financial circumstances.
Parents wishing to make an application for financial support should request a Confidential Statement of Financial Circumstances form from the Admissions Department and must submit it by 1st September in the year preceding admission to the School. The application for financial support would run alongside the child’s application for a place at the School.
