Academic Results and Destinations

At St Edward’s, we urge our pupils to look to long-term life goals, and to draw on the full range of skills, experiences and values developed during their time at Teddies to fulfil them. That process starts with achieving the exam grades to enable their preferred next steps on leaving school.

In 2024, 80% of school leavers secured places at their first-choice universities, most of them in the Russell Group of leading universities. One in six of these places is at a UK or overseas university ranked in the top 25 worldwide.

The breadth of subjects and UK destinations embraces Aeronautical Engineering at Imperial College London, Arabic & French at Oxford, Architecture at Edinburgh, Art & Design at Central Saint Martins, Chemistry at St Andrews, History at Bristol, Marketing at Newcastle, Pharmacy at King’s College London, and Politics & International Relations at Durham.

We are also seeing a growing trend in international destinations, with more than 20 of last year’s leavers taking up places at universities outside the UK, a significant number with a scholarship: in the US (including Brown, New York University, and the University of California, Berkeley), in Europe (such as Trinity College Dublin, EHL in Switzerland, and the University of Amsterdam), and even further afield at the University of Technology Sydney.

In 2024, the results for A Level and IB candidates were strong across the board. At A Level, 46% of the results were A*A, and nearly 80% were at A* to B. In the IB, 47% of the results were at 7 and 6 level (equivalent to A*A) and over 80% at 7 to 5 (equivalent to A* to B). The GCSEs and Pathways and Perspectives results were equally strong, with nearly 60% of pupils achieving grades 9 to 7.

Reflecting on baseline tests completed at the start of their time at Teddies, it is evident that pupils exceed projections to fulfil their potential: their hard work and application with their teachers in the classroom have delivered excellent outcomes.

Teddies also offers inspiration, energy and enthusiasm beyond the classroom, both for subjects and for future career paths, to give pupils the extra motivation to succeed.

Most distinctively, our Oxford Programme gives access to the University of Oxford and all it offers, through visiting lectures from academics, tuition from specialist graduate students (known as St Edward’s Fellows), and engagement with world-class collections. This complements our extensive range of super-curricular societies and events, as well as activities for all year groups led by the Careers and Higher Education teams, from the dynamic annual Careers Festival to a biennial school trip to visit US universities.
