School Nurse

Closing Date:

Salary: In line with the NHS Agenda for Change Band Six (pro rata to annualised hours over 39.6 weeks)

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Part time, 22 hours per week, term time only

The role:

We are looking for a compassionate and well-qualified Registered Nurse to join us at St Edward’s Oxford on a part-time basis (22 hours per week). This is a rewarding opportunity to support the delivery of high-quality, clinically effective care to pupils within a vibrant day and boarding school environment.

As part of our friendly and professional Health Centre team, you will play a vital role in supporting the physical and emotional wellbeing of our pupils. This will involve providing day-to-day nursing care, managing treatment plans, administering medication, liaising with parents and professionals, and contributing to safeguarding and health education.

Shift patterns:

Your base daily shift pattern will typically consist of a long day shift or a night shift, plus an early and/or late shift:

  • Long shift (7:30am – 8:00pm)
  • Early shift (7:30am – 4:00pm)
  • Late shift (12:00pm – 8:30pm)
  • Night shift (7:30pm – 8am)

Early shifts are usually reserved for Saturdays, whilst late shifts are routinely worked from Monday to Saturday. This is a term-time only position, making this an ideal opportunity for those seeking work-life balance along with regular holidays aligned with the school calendar.

About you:

You will be a Registered General Nurse (adult/child), with experience in school nursing, A&E, paediatrics, GP surgery, community nursing or adolescent health. You will have excellent communication skills, a calm and empathetic approach, and the ability to work independently without on-site medical backup. Up-to-date clinical knowledge and a commitment to ensuring pupil welfare is also essential.

Why work at St Edward’s:

St Edward’s is a co-educational boarding and day school set in 100 acres just north of Oxford city centre. We offer a welcoming, inclusive working environment with a strong sense of community. Staff benefit from a range of facilities including free membership at the on-site Nuffield Health gym, access to wellbeing resources, and professional development opportunities. With term-time working and supportive colleagues, this role offers both meaningful work and space for balance outside of it.
