An Oxford Education

The academic life of the School is shaped and influenced by its strong connections with the University of Oxford.

We are one of few boarding schools in the UK that are set within a city, and Oxford is an ever-present influence on school life. Our Oxford Lectures programme of talks, seminars and regular residencies by visiting academics ensure our pupils learn to develop their own scholarship and to think globally – they are encouraged to follow their own interests and extend their knowledge beyond the curriculum. The city centre is a mere 5 minute bus ride, or a 10 minute cycle away, and our pupils frequently visit the University colleges and local museums, galleries and theatres, immersing themselves in the intellectual life of a city which is world-renowned for academia and culture.

The Super Curriculum at Teddies – Summer 2025

The St Edward’s Fellows, postgraduate students at the University employed as part-time teachers at Teddies, bring the very latest academic research and their passion for their subjects into the classroom, complementing the work of our highly qualified full-time teaching body.

Shall I tell you what made St Edward’s different for me? Its location. There is no more sublime location — probably anywhere. You have the city, Port Meadow, the playing fields, the whole environment, and then Summertown as your own suburb. It’s an absolutely extraordinary coalition — the organic combination of city, suburb, countryside: it is amazing.
Jon Snow OSE, journalist and television presenter

On our own doorstep is Summertown, a lively city suburb, with many useful amenities and attractions. Summertown has a brilliant range of independent coffee shops, a French bakery, a Daunt Books and a small M&S Food, Tesco and Sainsbury’s. Pupils relish the freedom to pop out for a hot chocolate or essential supplies.

We have strong links with local charities and schools, at which our pupils spend time volunteering nearby. The School holds a real value in being part of the North Oxford community in this way.
