Chapel
The School has a proud Christian heritage and our historic Chapel brings the whole community together for regular worship and glorious music. Its prominent position is a reminder of the religious dimension to life and everyone in the school community is invited to share in its activities.
Reverend Liz Boughton
The Chapel is open every day for those who wish to pray or find some quiet. Completed in 1878, the building embodies our rich association with the Oxford Movement and we remain committed to our Christian heritage.
Our Chaplain, Reverend Liz Boughton, is always ready to discuss matters of faith and belief and to explore the spiritual life. She is available to all pupils, staff and parents, regardless of religious affiliation, to provide pastoral and spiritual care or just a listening ear.
The Chaplain can help pupils from other faiths find a place to worship and is always delighted to hear from OSE considering a wedding.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the Chaplain.
Christian Nurture
Our school was founded primarily to teach young people about Christian faith and we are continuing this tradition by offering opportunities to study life, faith and doctrine. Classes are run each year for pupils who would like to be confirmed, both Anglican and Roman Catholic courses are on offer. We also have a thriving Christian Union, which meets weekly.

Worship at St Edward’s
Our main service on Friday evenings is either a short form of Evensong or Holy Communion with beautiful canticles sung by the choir, prayer and reflection. We also have a Compline service on Sundays during term time. Compline is an ancient service of quiet and stillness before rest at the end of the day. The office is sung to simple chants and hymns – its enduring beauty is in its simplicity.
All our services are open to parents and all members of the school community.
Friday Evensong or Holy Communion – 7.00pm
Compline – Sundays, 9.10pm
Parents’ Prayer Meetings are held twice a term; on the Friday lunchtime of the first Leave Weekend from 12.45-1.15pm and on the Sunday evening of the second Leave Weekend 8.30-9.00pm each term. Details are published in eNews.
