Sports Awards

Sports Awards at St Edward’s are available for entry at 13+, 14+ and 16+

All candidates applying for an Award must be registered and sit an online screening  test and examinations which together with a formal interview, will demonstrate whether they can benefit from the academic opportunities at St Edward’s.  For 13+ entry the online test will be taken in the November of Year 8. For 14+ entry the online test will be taken at the end of October of Year 9 with exams and interview in mid-November of Year 9. For 16+ entry the online test will be taken in late October of Year 11 with exams and interview in early November of Year 11.

We offer Sports Awards to candidates who will become leading sporting figures in the school and to those with the potential to reach regional, national and international level.

At 13+ and 14+ successful candidates will show considerable natural ability in two out of three of our core sports (hockey, rugby, netball, football, cricket & athletics).  Competing at county or regional level is beneficial at this stage, but not essential. At this age group, we are looking for enthusiastic leaders and team players who display all round talent and to reflect this, candidates will be assessed in a range of our core sports. Successful applicants will show that they have the potential to compete in school sport at the top of their age group, throughout the school year. Applications should be supported by testimonials from the candidate’s most senior coach’s. 

At 16+, successful candidates should be competing at county or National level in at least one of our core sports (hockey, rugby, netball, football, cricket & rowing). They may specialise in one sport, but will be expected to make a year round contribution to the competitive games programme at St Edward’s. A testimonial from their county/club coach should be included with the application.

All of our award holders act as sporting role models to others through their high levels of motivation and determination. Awards are reviewed on an annual basis to ensure continued commitment to the programme. Sports Awards attract a fee remission of 2.5% per annum.
