Dancing the night away for SuchHope Charity

Girls from Oakthorpe took part in a 24-hour Dance-a-thon this weekend to raise money for the school charity, Sub-Saharan Children’s Hope Trust (SuchHope).

Liz Boast, Oakthorpe HM, writes:

“The 24-hour Dance-a-thon used to be a biennial tradition for Oakthorpe and the Upper Sixth decided last term that it was high time it was resurrected. The date was set for Saturday 14th January and between 12pm on Saturday and 12pm on Sunday, the Dance-a-thon was underway in support of SuchHope.

We boogied; we did the twist; we aced the Macarena; we did the cha-cha slide; and we generally had a blast. The 2am – 5am slot was perhaps the hardest but some disco tunes and an endless supply of Cadbury’s mini eggs got us through.

A huge thank you to the Upper Sixth for their organisation and encouragement and to all the staff who helped keep us going throughout the weekend.

A huge thank you to all who have supported us and to those of you who have kindly donated to SuchHope – we’re thrilled to have raised over £1000 for this brilliant charity.” It is a charity dear to our hearts as it was established by Mr Chitsenga in the Maths department, and it does great work with children in Sub-Saharan Africa.

If you would like to contribute to Oakthorpe’s fundraising efforts, there is still time to do so. Please follow this link to their JustGiving page to show your support for their stellar effort.
