Chapel in the Quad

Sixth Former Vera Gorlacheva writes: Each and every school has traditions and events that define the school atmosphere. In Teddies, it is Chapel in the Quad. Once every Summer Term, the Quad is transformed from being just an area of pretty grass into a place of acceptance, happiness and tranquillity. It is a very warm and welcoming event which gives every member of the School a big boost of energy and positivity. Just imagine: it’s Sunday morning, the sun is shining on your face, lots of smiling faces are radiating happiness around you and David Bowie is singing ‘Changes’ in the background…what could be better? Each year our lovely chaplains decide on a theme that they are going to explore and in 2016 it is The Main Thing. The main purpose of this theme is to allow each pupil to reflect on their lives and find the areas they feel are most important to them. The main thing is different for everyone. It can be family, a successful career – or even pizza! But there is one ‘main thing’ we all have — dreams. During this year’s Chapel in the Quad everything from the reading of Holy Scripture to the songs played were dedicated to the idea of dreams. Not only did we discuss the importance of dreaming, but we also looked at how we can easily be fooled by our dreams through the readings and real life examples.

Everyone was encouraged to participate in singing. The uplifting sounds of music rang throughout the School and our hearts were filled with a sense of safety and joy.

You don’t have to be religious to enjoy Chapel in the Quad. You just have to be able to open up your soul, relax and live in the moment.
