Hampton Head
Three crews were in action at Hampton yesterday for the first race of the term: the boys’ 1st VIII, and the boys’ and girls’ J15 VIII.
All three categories had a high class entry with most of the top schools entering crews and all three recorded very impressive results. The boys’ 1st VIII came fifth in a very close top five which suggests they are moving in the right direction and will be very competitive this year. The girls’ J15 VIII came seventh overall but were very competitive against schools who had been rowing since September, and so we would expect them to move further up the rankings as the season unfolds. The highlight was the boys’ J15 VIII who came fourth in their event beating St Paul’s, Radley, Dulwich, Bedford, Winchester and others. The top three were all three-term rowing schools/clubs, so further improvement might well be expected which means they should be competing at the very top end this year.
