Mini Plant Tour

Vincent Moisy, A Level Design pupil, writes: After learning about the multiple techniques used in the progression of manufacturing in the classroom, it was a riveting experience to be able to witness the technology and programming  required to run a car manufacturing plant first hand. With around 4,000 employees, the plant runs non-stop from 6:00am — 4:30 am the following morning, producing roughly 1000 cars daily, ranging from the 3 door hatchback to the clubman. The highlight of the trip was of course seeing the third generation robots in action, swivelling and bending in ways a human arm could not, completely in synch. There are over 1,000 robots working at the Mini Plant and looking down from a viewing platform was an unbelievable sight; this was a fantastic trip we will not forget.
