The Inaugural Rotary Design Competition

Andrew Halliwell, Head of Design Technology, writes:

On Thursday, we hosted Eton and Cheney school for its very first Rotary Design Competition, an exciting event that challenged both our Sixth form and Middle School teams to showcase their design skills, problem-solving abilities, and creativity. The competition, which was supported by the local Rotary Club, provided a unique opportunity for our students to engage in a hands-on, collaborative project, pushing them to think outside the box while working under a tight deadline.

Both groups, made up of enthusiastic and talented teams, were tasked with completing a complex design challenge over the course of the day. The problem-solving and teamwork required was immense, and each team brought their own innovative ideas to the table. Though the final results saw St. Edward’s teams secure second place in both the Advanced and Intermediate categories, the event was a resounding success and a testament to the hard work and determination of all involved.

The competition was not only about winning, but also about learning, growing, and, most importantly, having fun. Pupils worked together in high spirits, collaborating and bouncing ideas off one another, and even when the pressure was on, there was a strong sense of camaraderie. The day was filled with moments of laughter, encouragement, and creative breakthroughs. All teams will be back next year and will hopefully bring home the trophies!
