Modern Foreign Languages Debating Competition
On the 28th of November, ten Sixth Formers from Teddies took part in the annual MFL debating competition at Cheltenham College. Debate topics included the benefits of AI, the Spanish monarchy and its influence, and whether pineapple should be banned from pizza.
It was a close competition, with all teams putting in a fantastic performance. They all impressed with excellent teamwork, ability to think on their feet, and keeping cool under pressure, but most of all with their strong and well-researched arguments.
Of the five teams, German had a particularly successful competition, with both teams making it through the semi-finals to debate against each other in the final round. The Upper Sixth team of Harry Edis and Antonia Badircea took on the Lower Sixth team of Angus Johnstone and Nastia Matchuk, making for a nail-biting Teddies vs Teddies final.
Debating the motion ‘Money rules the world’, the Lower Sixth put in a brilliant effort, with Angus winning the ‘Debater of the Day’ prize. However, experience won out in the end, and the Upper Sixth team eventually won the whole event. Congratulations, Harry and Antonia for an outstanding performance and well-deserved victory!
