The Friendship Voyage

On 12th December, two of our teachers, Arthur and Euan Friend, began a voyage of 3,000 miles, rowing unassisted across the Atlantic Ocean from the Canary Islands to Antigua.

They are taking part in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge, known as the ‘world’s toughest row’ with around 30 other teams from around the world and are raising money for three charities; Drive Forward, Friends of Kiwoko Hospital and Churches Housing Action Team in Devon.

More people have climbed Mount Everest than have rowed across the Atlantic – it is one of the most demanding endurance events on the planet. The Friends, themselves twin brothers, will be rowing with their other two brothers, Hamish and Jack, also twins. If they complete the challenge the Friends will be the first four brothers to row an ocean and the first two sets of twins to row an ocean. To succeed, they will need to come together as a team to overcome the immense mental, physical and logistical challenges of the race.
