Conditioning and Recovery camp for England Rugby

England Men’s Senior Rugby Squad returned to St Edward’s last week for another training camp during their Six Nations Championships preparations for “La Crunch” – the match against France – on Saturday 10th March.

On previous occasions, the England squad have trained on the School’s Upper 1 pitch, with pupils invited to watch some of their sporting heroes conducting their training drills. The impact of the snow and high winds and the conditions underfoot they generated meant that their camp had to be conducted indoors.

Under the necessities of an altered programme, a reduced squad of 19 from 27, made their way to Oxford for their camp, with the England forwards taking up residence in the Douglas Bader Sports Hall on Wednesday morning, conducting a series of conditioning and recovery exercises after the bruising Calcutta Cup encounter at Murrayfield the previous weekend.

Although pupils and members of the public were unable to watch the training sessions this time, two members of the pupil media crew, Teddies on Camera, were able to join the press call. You can see the photographs they took on the Galleries page here.

England’s senior men’s squad have made use of the School’s facilities on several occasions in recent years, with the last occasion falling in September 2017; an early training session before the successful Autumn Internationals series.
