On the Boundary Rope of Upper One: Teddies pre-season cricket

As the Summer Term sports calendar gears up for a full schedule of fixtures this weekend, Richard Howitt, Master in Charge of Cricket, assesses a productive and promising pre-season training:

“It has been a very positive pre-season that has seen some highly entertaining cricket played. 1st XI highlights include beating Oxfordshire by 88 runs and MCS by 98 runs.

Individual highlights have come through Ben Charlesworth; who scored 97 against Gloucestershire, 69 against MCS and 60 against Oxfordshire. Harrison Ward has made a very good all-round contribution including scoring 84 vs. Gloucestershire and 48 against MCS and taking 2 wickets each against MCS and Oxford University.

Other positive performances have come from 2017 captain Brandon Allen 76 vs. MCS, William Deasy 67 vs. Oxfordshire, Tom Powell 4/55 and 60* vs. Malvern and Jamie Curtis 3/46 vs. Malvern and 3/23 vs. Oxford University.

In other teams,  the Yearlings got a positive victory yesterday by 30 runs against MCS – Josh Thomas top scoring with 44 and Gus MacLeod getting among the wickets with 2/27.”
