Launch of new Pupil-led Biology Magazine

The inaugural issue of a new St Edward’s School magazine focusing on the biological sciences, “Teddies Talks Biology”, was published at the end of last term.

The brainwave of Olivia Yu (Upper Sixth), the magazine has been pupil-led from its conception through writing, editing and design to its publication, with only minimal support and guidance from the Head of Biology, Mr Storey.

Even in its first issue, Teddies Talks Biology has already showcased an incredible breadth of knowledge from the pupil contributors, offering a thought-provoking and informative read. Writing on vital subjects as varied as evolutionary theory, antibiotic resistance and the relative health benefits of “fad” diets, pupils have set down a challenging marker for future editions.

Mr Storey wishes to express his thanks to all of the contributors to this first issue, but felt special mention must be given to Salmon Lau, Molly van der Heiden, Pitt Vitheethum and Olivia Yu (all Upper Sixth), whose enthusiasm and creativity made the whole project possible.

It is expected that Lower Sixth pupils will take over the leadership with the next issue of the magazine, but pupils from all year groups are encouraged to get involved. Articles can be contributed on any interests from across the biological sciences.
