Rowing in the USA

The Boat Club enjoyed a very successful trip to the USA over half term to race in the highly competitive Head of the Schuylkill Regatta in Philadelphia. The girls raced in the High School Varsity quad event and came 10th overall while the boys raced in various boat types with our top two boats being the coxed four and the single.  Max Thompson came 12th in the High School Varsity singles event, the boys four came 2nd in the High School Varsity coxed four and the boys eight came 33rd out of 66 in the High School Varsity eight – all extremely competitive results at such a huge international event. Pupils were very generously hosted, as in previous years, by Merion Mercy Academy and this year also visited New York for the day as well as sightseeing in Philadelphia and training on the river. My thanks go to Jonny and Eve Singfield and Tristan Mayglothling who supervised the trip out in Philadelphia. Finally, congratulations to John Wiggins who travelled out with the party  and who finished 6th in the Masters double event.
