Rowing Update

It was a busy day for the Boat Club on Saturday with crews racing at three events. In the morning our 1st VIII, J15 boys’ A and B VIIIs and our girls’ J15 VIII all raced at Dorney Lake in a series of informal training races against Radley. The 1st VIII raced well but narrowly came off second to Radley’s 1st VIII while the J15 boys’ VIII had effectively a dead heat against the Radley 2nd VIII and their J15 A VIII. The highlight was the girls’ J15 VIII who were faster than both the Radley J15 C VIII and our boys’ J15 B VIII, and also rowed a good race in defeat against the Radley J15 B VIII. It was great to see them take on the boys and race so competitively. (These girls can!).

Later that day the Shells were in action. The boys raced at Shiplake while the girls hosted Hinksey at home. The girls’ octo recorded their first win of the term against Hinksey and will have learnt a great deal from the event. The boys took three crews to race at Shiplake with Reading Bluecoat also joining in.  I’m pleased to say that both our A and B crews won. Our As beat both Shiplake and Reading Bluecoat A crews, beating the Shiplake A crew twice, while our B crew also managed to beat the Shiplake A crew as well as the Reading Bluecoat B crew. A final mention should go to our plucky C crew who raced well in defeat against the Shiplake B crew.
