The Dance Show 2016

The Dance Show has become one of the highlights of the year and this year was a particularly successful occasion with outstanding dancing and splendid lighting and sound produced by Casper Sunley and William Webb.  A huge variety of dance styles were on display — everything from ballet to breakdance — all delivered with precision and enjoyment. Highlights included an inventive item entitled ‘Down the rabbit hole’ which combined Contemporary Dance and Acrobatics making reference to Alice in Wonderland. Boys featured strongly in a Breakdance item as well as Contemporary and their presence in the show is being strongly encouraged. Selena Thompson  gave an assured solo performance and we look forward to many more captivating performances from her. The talented group of nine Upper Sixth dancers — the ‘Dance Squad’ (most of whom are now beyond the benchmark grade 8 standard) gave the most accomplished performance I have seen at any school. Their finale, entitled ‘Sun Fantasy’ began with a film (click here, produced by Celia Hodgson, Upper Sixth) displaying their dancing skills in all corners of the school: the cloisters, on dining hall tables; on hockey pitches; around the North Wall — I think most areas were covered. The film dovetailed neatly with a continuation live on stage as the screen retreated. It was a splendid end to a magical show and the choreographers and in particular Lisa Elkins should be congratulated on another huge success.
