Benedict Wells

Just before the end of term, German author Benedict Wells visited the School to hold a lunchtime workshop with Sixth Formers and discuss the controversial themes in his latest book Fast Genial. The 29 year old author, described by Die Zeit newspaper as ‘the most interesting debut of the year’, talked to the pupils about how to become a published author, what drives him to write and why he believes it is the beginning of a new era for young German writers who are keen to break away from the themes of post war literature which have dominated the German literary scene in recent decades. He was thoroughly impressed by the questions and engagement of the pupils and enjoyed his tour around a British boarding school, which he felt was a very welcoming and creative place.
