Summer Cricket

St Edward’s cricketing success continued over the summer months. Calvin Dickinson, captain of the 2015 1st XI, played for Worcestershire 2nd XI all summer. Calvin made 48 on his debut versus Nottinghamshire where he was facing England quick bowler Chris Woakes; he then went on to top score with 69 against Lancashire. AJ Woodland is also making his way on the men’s county circuit: he made his 2nd XI debut for Hampshire this summer and took 3 wickets. Brandon Allen played for Gloucestershire’s 2nd XI (Scored 53* on debut versus Warwickshire). Ben Charlesworth made the South and West England U15 squad for the Bunbury Festival and scored 135* for Oxfordshire U14s against Shropshire. Rory Hipwell also made the South and West England U15 squad for Bunbury. Following his performances in this tournament he was selected in for the South versus the North of England (a game in which he took two wickets). David English (founder of the Bunbury Festival) said on national radio that Rory was the fastest bowler (86 mph) seen at the Festival since Steven Finn. Harrison Ward also made headlines this summer. He too made the South and West England U15 squad for Bunbury. From his performances in this tournament he was selected for the South versus the North of England game in which he top scored with 109, a superb effort. Harrison also made his minor county debut for Oxfordshire this summer becoming not only the youngest player in the history of the competition to score a century, but also the youngest player to play in the minor counties championship final. Jamie Curtis was busy playing for Surrey Academy and Oxfordshire U15s over the Summer, whilst Tom Powell also played for Oxfordshire U15s. All in all, it was a very busy and successful summer for the school’s elite cricketers.
