David Laing

Class of 1951

David Magnus Laing, 1933-2021 (Apsley, 1947-1951)

David Laing died peacefully on the 9th June 2021, aged 88. Beloved husband of Dierdre for 63 years. Father of Philippa, Louise and Rosalind. Papa to Becky, Bertie, Mary, Hugo, Duncan, Douglas and Jamie, and his great-grandchildren Robin and Hero.

His good friend, John Anthony (E, 1946-1951) wrote:

He was born on the 22nd May 1933. We first met at Teddies in 1947. We both enjoyed life at Apsley and in the History Sixth. We went to St Edmund Hall, where we had a great social life and managed to fit in some study. For two years we both had bedsits at a home in Moreton Road near Summertown.

David was very proud of his large family and he had a very successful career in Marketing and Management Consulting in London. We regularly went to Lords Test matches when we often met up with other OSE and staff. My wife and I frequently visited David and Deidre at their homes in London, Wisborough Green and Chichester and they came to Wales on several occasions, one being a Cardiff OSE dinner.

Sadly he developed Alzheimer’s disease about two years ago which gradually became more severe. My wife and I attended his funeral in Chichester Cathedral on the 28th June.

David Laing – born May 22nd 1933, died June 9th 2021, aged 88.
