Stephen Jones, Warden, said, ‘Competition for places at the best universities is incredibly fierce and we are delighted that the hard work of these pupils – and the staff who supported them with their applications to Oxford and Cambridge – has paid off. We are equally delighted with the impressive offers received by many of our other pupils from excellent universities all over the country, and we look forward to reporting on the outcome of international applications shortly. We wish all our Upper Sixth the very best of luck in this important year as they work towards achieving the grades they require.’
St Edward’s has a particular approach to its academic profile. Stephen Jones explains: ‘We are a broad entry school to our core; a diverse, balanced community is the hallmark of a Teddies education. This means, of course, that our pupils achieve a broad range of results. As we celebrate this recent success at the top end, it’s worth registering that our highest ability pupils (the top third of the year group) last year achieved just under 90% A*/A or IB Levels 6/7: a truly impressive figure. It’s easy to miss the fact that within our broad range, there are many who achieve at the very highest level. Oxbridge always grabs the headlines, but each year, the vast majority of our pupils achieve the grades they require to go on to the very best universities in the UK and overseas.’
