Meet the HM

Simon has held a number of roles St Edward’s before taking the helm of Segar’s: he has been Master in Charge of Cricket, Master in Charge of Golf, Head of the Fifth Form and a Teacher of English and Drama. As Housemaster he is absolutely committed to pastoral care and wellbeing and immensely proud of the culture of Segar’s – the boys are encouraged to be of good character, and to be friendly and well mannered. Simon likes the boys to push themselves in all things and to be keen. He recently pushed himself a bit hard, running the 2022 Marathon Des Sables and finishing 38th. When not at school he and his family escape to Dorset where he and his wife, Cerian, are getting their two boys into reading, climbing and walking trails of the Jurassic Coast.

From September 2024 Richard Jackson will be the HM of Segar’s

Meet the new HM

Richard Jackson, Segar’s HM from September

Richard read History at Brasenose College, Oxford. He focused on eighteenth century British and American history and enjoyed hunting the university beagles. After Oxford he worked in Parliament before joining the Royal Navy where he served as a Warfare Officer. Between 2005 and 2015 he worked for the Foreign Office until he decided to teach History. In 2023 he joined Teddies from Abingdon School where he had been a Resident Tutor, led the EPQ programme, the Debating Society and Fencing Club, and Radley College where he ran the CCF Royal Navy Section.  He is married to Siena and they have a two year old daughter, Cordelia. In the holidays they live in Salcombe, Devon, and Rousham, Oxfordshire.
